The main purpose of this trip is a pilgrimage to the site of the former Nyange Secondary School in Ngororero District. Here, you will honor the memory of the courageous students who, in 1997, refused to be divided along ethnic lines during an attack, choosing unity and sacrificing their lives. Recognized as “Imena” (heroes), their story is central to Rwanda’s post-genocide narrative of unity and reconciliation. The tour provides ample time for reflection at the memorial site. The scenic journey through Rwanda’s Western Province can be extended with optional, relaxing views of the majestic Nyabarongo River wetlands and the distant shores of Lake Kivu.
