The rock reminds people the story of Chief Kamegeri, who lived during the reign of King Mibambwe II Sekarongoro II Gisanura. Kamegeri was burned on this rock after making a cruel suggestion about the punishment that would be given to those who rebelled against the king.
King Gisanura, nicknamed Rugabishashabirenge because of his kindness, gathered the chiefs and his close ones and asked for the appropriate punishment for the villains who had rebelled against him. The king listened to all of them, but he was very surprised by the answers he received from his chiefs Kamegeri and Mikoranya.
Kamegeri had suggested a cruel punishment, to burn the rock and turn it red and then burn alive the rebels of the kingdom. So the King gave him the same punishment.Since then the rock has been named after him.
